Welcome to Fieldnotes, a blog created by graduate students from the department of International Development Studies at the University of Guelph. This blog was created out of our desire for a space to discuss the real struggles of fieldwork and research more generally. As researchers whose work focuses on issues of power and oppression between and within the Global North and the Global South, we are continually faced with questions and challenges regarding our own positionality, our interactions with research participants as well as the many ethical considerations of conducting field work cross culturally, and around the globe. This blog will consist of the stories and musings of graduate students within the department and will cover a wide range of topics from a variety of diverse perspectives. We hope that the insights and stories told through this blog will provide a space where graduate students can learn from one another as well as support their fellow researchers in the research process.
If you are interested in contributing to this blog please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we would be happy to support you in writing or publishing an article. Additionally, if you have a specific question related to research or field work that you think would make for an interesting blog post, please send your questions our way and we will do our best to find an author to address your question.
We look forward to seeing and participating in the conversations to come.
